No Room for Failure; Students Striving Harder Amidst the Pandemic

By: Charlie Mae Esimos- BSBA 1E

I took my phone out of my pocket, I check the time and it is already 08:00 AM. I gathered all my things such as notebooks, calculator, highlighter, ball pens and pad paper. I needed to go to Auntie Mira's household before 08:30AM strikes. I knock three times before the door opens and it shows Auntie Mira, she told me to get inside and prepare my things so that i can start to study and join my online classes.

It is all new to me in using Google classroom, Google meet and Zoom for attending our every day online discussion. We meet virtually by the use of Google meet but I observed that some of my classmates are having difficulties on joining our online discussion, and some cannot even join. My teacher discusses the topic and ask questions afterwards, it is quite interesting in my part because when I was a Senior High School Student we only use modular approach. My teacher added that she uploaded a long quiz and two activities on Google classroom before she ended the class. I check the Google classroom and indeed there's a new upload quiz in Google form and the link will be closed after 1 hour so I started to answer it correctly and carefully. It took me 55 minutes to finish the long quiz and I went to check the two activities that also uploaded there. I started to answer the activity that the deadline is near to come, I type my answer in Google docs and for some references I visit Google to get some ideas to support my answers, after I finished the activity 1. I open Google classroom and turn in my work.

At last, I finished I mean not totally because I will just do the other activity tomorrow as I needed to return the cell phone to my Auntie Mira, she only let me use her phone whenever I have an online classes. I stood up and started to clean her house for the compensation of letting me use her phone and for buying my school supplies. When I open the back door I bumped into someone who's wearing an almost ragged clothes and holding a pail of water in both of her hands. As I look up it was Sarah my twin. Just like me she is also a first year college student taking up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I smile to  her knowing how she work hard as a full-time cleaner in Auntie Mira's house just to earn money to buy our foods and pay the electric bills. She patted my shoulder and said "Study hard and make us proud, I chose to stop my study in order for you to continue. So study harder twin."

  7. Very nice article,Many students (and parents) think they need a perfect GPA to get into the university of their choice, so they take the classes they know they’ll excel in instead of taking a risk and challenging themselves. Especially right now, it’s important to remember that getting a B won’t stop a student from accomplishing their goals—and it may just teach them the critical skill of perseverance.

  8. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Moreyna’s school was closed by the local government. Moreyna was one of the 62.5 million students across the country—from pre-primary to higher education—who had had no choice but to learn from home.

  24. In this time of pandemic, it’s hard and challenging for us to adapt to a new normal in education. The hardest part about online learning is staying interested and motivated. Despite the poor internet connection, we have to push ourselves to get things done and stay on top of our responsibilities. However, everyone should realize that we deserve a break despite our busy schedules. We should take care of ourselves in order to give our academic career the attention it deserves.

  35. It's a fantastic piece of writing. Some of us are fortunate enough to have devices to use in online classrooms. As a result, we must study harder in order to fulfill our life goals.

  37. As a student, is it hard not having enough financial assistant and electronic devices that can be use in studying and life is gets harder when the pandemic arises not only to our country but to the whole world. Let us not forget the greatest impact of pandemic into our education department that DepEd decided to make our learning be distance from our school. Instead of going to school, were lock up inside our house and keep on learning with the help of modular learning and online classes and it is hard having lack of materials and tools needed in learning. This article of Ms. Esimos shows us how hard life is, that someone needs to sacrifice for the sake of the other and it is also shows us the greatest impact of COVID-19 in our learning.
